INTRODUCTION:
The C-47 is a 2-engine, all metal, low wing monoplane, used for transport and supplies, paratroop operations, glider towing and the evacuation of the wounded.
The VSKYLABS C-47 is based on a C-47B variant which was designed for high altitude flying. It is equipped with two 1200 Hp Pratt & Whitney, 14-cylinder twin Wasp R1830-90C engines driving Hamilton paddle-bladed fully feathering propellers. Each R1830-90C engine is equipped with a 2-speed internal blower for supercharged power.
The hydraulics landing gears is of the tail-wheel type. Main wheels retract vertically into the engine nacelles and extend approximately 11 inches out of the nacelles then fully retracted. In this position they are free to rotate and are subject to normal brake action, thus the aircraft, in principle, may land with with the gears retracted during emergency landing, depending on the landing site (in such condition, the propellers are subjected to ground impact, obviously).
